CONNTECH Advanced Source Optimizer step 2 of 5 — Labels configuration screen showing Item Type cards (Chemicals, Organics, Tools) and Supplier data fields (Supplier Name, Supplier Code, Core Supplier, Full Time Employees, Years in Business, Annual Sales Revenues, ISO Certification, EDI Capable), displayed on an iMac desktop monitor
JAGGAER's Advanced Sourcing Optimizer (ASO) helps procurement professionals optimize supplier selection through complex sourcing events and business rule analysis. This case study examines how we transformed this critical tool to better serve our users' needs.
CONNTECH Scenarios Management table showing 250 sourcing scenarios with columns for Name, ID, Comments, Status, Optimality Achieved, Locked, Allocation Status, and Time Completed — including scenarios such as Single Supplier (100% optimality), Lowest Bid (Dirty-Unoptimized), and Incumbent variants, with 3 items selected and Consolidate/Aggregate bulk actions

The Challenge

The existing application suffered from an outdated interface that didn't align with JAGGAER's product suite. Users faced a steep learning curve, spending days on tasks that should take hours. The confusing terminology and navigation led to significant productivity losses and user frustration.

CONNTECH Lowest Bid scenario configuration screen showing Quick Navigation panel (General, Scope, Settings), Scenario Actions (Copy, Move, Lock, Delete), Scenario Details sidebar with optimization status "Reports Available - Stale Data", and main form with locked status toggle, bid inclusion settings (Approved Bids, Outlier Bids, Alternate Bids checked), and scope filtered to 4 Item IDs of type 01_LTL

Research and Discovery

My analysis revealed that 60% of users spent two to three days creating scenarios and events, while 28% reverted to Excel due to complex calculations. User interviews highlighted frustrations with limited rule options and manual reporting processes. The inability to easily navigate between steps during event creation emerged as a major pain point.

CONNTECH FTL And TL All Bids data table showing 250 bid results across carriers (Carrier 01, 03, 05, 07, 09, 13, 34) for Client LTL Switzerland and France lanes, with columns for Supplier Name, Lane Description, Total Quantity, Converted Average Historic Price (EUR), Item Validity, Item Type, and Bid Round — 4 items selected with Disapprove and Approve bulk actions

Solution

I focused on three goals: reducing task completion time, streamlining workflows, and modernizing the interface. The solution simplified event creation from seven to five steps and scenario creation from five to two steps. I introduced consolidated forms with intuitive navigation and redesigned the rules configuration interface for better usability. Technical improvements enhanced data presentation and table loading performance.

Results

  • Task compilation time reduced from a few days to a few hours

  • 35% increase in user satisfaction

  • 17% reduction in operational costs

This redesign project successfully addressed the major pain points of the ASO app, significantly improving its usability and efficiency. By simplifying complex processes and enhancing the user interface, the redesign not only saved time and resources for client companies but also increased overall user satisfaction.
